RHS Theatre Dept., Opening Act Theatre Company and Thespian Troupe #7289 is a host site and would like to invite you, students, staff and community, to gather with us for The Ghostlight Project. On Thurs. Jan. 19 at 5:30 P.M., in each time zone across the country, we will gather outside of theatres to create a "light" for dark times ahead, and to make, or renew, a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, age, gender identity or sexual orientation. At Roosevelt, we will meet at 5:00 P.M. this Thurs. Jan. 19 in the new Black Box Theatre, Room 9 to make "I Am...I Fight For..." and "We Are...We Fight For..." signs for the event. After brief announcements and readings, we will gather outside with our signs and lights in solidarity. Students are encouraged to dress warmly as it will be cold and bring a flashlight, standard or phone. This event will officially kick off RHS Theatre's spring production of the Social Justice Theatre Project.
Please come join us!
Following our gathering above...
THE SOCIAL JUSTICE THEATRE PROJECT officially begins.
The Social Justice Theatre Project is here and you are invited to sign up! Roosevelt's Opening Act Theatre Company is holding four information/audition sessions to become an official participant. Students, notably students of color and students from all affinity and culture clubs who have been introduced to Augusto Boal and Theatre of the Oppressed, are encouraged to join as this project continues that work. The info/audition sessions are Mon. Jan. 23; Wed. Jan. 25; Thurs. Jan. 26; and Wed. Feb. 1 from 3:30-4:30 P.M. in the new Black Box Theatre, Room 9. Attend at least one session. No experience is needed, but once invited officially to participate, commitment is necessary to continue involvement. Guest artists working with committed participants include Dion Graham (African-American professional actor from New York; The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Madame Secretary), May Lee-Yang (Hmong actor, director, playwright, and activities from St. Paul, MN), and Debbie Lamedman (professional actor, playwright, director; Portland Actors Conservatory), all Equity actors. Plus, more theatre professionals! See Ms. Lane for details or go to "Productions--Current Season".
